Former Kohlu District Naib Nazim Mir Zulfiqar Marri has ruled out any military action in the district and said an operation was targeted against the insurgents to ensure security to the local people.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, he alleged that militants were killing poor people and Frontier Corps personnel by laying mines and firing rockets to maintain their "tyrannical" hold on Kohlu.

Besides, he added, these were the same people, who murdered Balochistan High Court Chief Justice on January 7, 2000.

They also killed district Naib Nazim Mir Changar Marri and agriculture officer Mir Abdul Qadir Marri by laying landmine.

Dozens of electricity pylons and crops on thousands of acres of land had been destroyed over the past few years, he allegedly said.

The insurgents had blown up electricity pylons on December 20 and since then the entire district had been without electricity, he said. He termed the attack on President Pervez Musharraf as completely against the Baloch tradition of the hospitality.

Marri invited all political parties to visit Kohlu to see the situation themselves that action was being taken only against militants, not against the common men of the area.

Marri tribesmen who spoke on the occasion include Mir Miran, Wadera Ghulam Shah, Mir Janaat, Wadera Ghulam Bukhsh Powadhi, Malik Jaloo and Malik Kahor Khan.
